The Quiet Artist
Kurzweil grew up in a well-to-do family and was expected to live a conventional life. Though he married a beautiful French woman, their relationship was often marked by unhappiness. In addition, Kurzweil struggled with the pressure to fit in with his bourgeois roots rather than living the carefree artist's lifestyle that he desired. During this time, his work often reflected the loneliness and longing that he felt while living a quiet, reserved life. Eventually, Kurzweil's life came to a tragic end when he and his mistress committed suicide together while he was just 48 years old.
A Legacy Left Behind
Despite having a relatively short career, Kurzweil is remembered as one of the most important members of the Vienna Secession movement that celebrated artwork with styles that departed from academic tradition. Influences from famous artists like Ferdinand Hodler and Edvard Munch are often seen in his later works. To own a striking reproduction of one of Kurzweil's paintings for yourself, shop online at overstockArt today. You can choose to add one of our many museum-quality frames to give your painting a stylish finished look.
