Summer Fun in Art Masterpeices
Summer doesn’t officially begin until the solstice on June 20 at 7:09 pm EDT, but the spirit of Summer fun is already in full swing with the unofficial Memorial Day kick-off!
They don’t call them the “Lazy Days of Summer” for nothing! The heat slows the body down, and ways to cool off are sought. The mind and soul crave the warmth, sun, and green the season brings.
Here are some top activities to revel in this Summer:
Beach and swimming: Perhaps the number one Summer activity. Sand and surf, sun and fun. Whether at one of the top ocean beach destinations in the United States (Florida, California, the New Jersey Shore, Hawaii, Cape Cod in Massachusetts, North and South Carolina ), the lake beaches can’t be forgotten either! Kids collect shells and bounce in the waves under the watchful eyes of their parents, while others sleep in the sand, letting the warmth seep into their skin and bones. Others take it as the perfect opportunity to don a huge floppy hat, sit under an enormous umbrella, read a book and relax to the rhythm of the waves. Stock up on your favorite beach reads in paperback or eReader with a cool drink? Heaven!
Picnics: A time for gathering, eating, grilling, playing badminton, and croquet. Hot dogs, hamburgers, potato salad, ears of corn, ice cream and lemonade all mixed with laughter are prime events for the Summer. In your own backyard, at the beach, at the park, and in huge block parties, picnics are the perfect opportunity for family and friends to kick back and relax.
Boating: Not for everyone, but for those who love it take advantage of the waves! Taking a sailboat out into the ocean or a lake, or a boat out into the middle of a lake for fishing can be relaxing – and rejuvenating – for everyone. And, if you’re one to get seasick, watching the boats from shore can be just as relaxing, as sails dot the horizon and bob on the tide.
Summer Nights: Fireflies and stars, outdoor cafes, and moonlit walks. With the warm breath of Summer on your face, it lulls a soul into a hypnotic state. The chirping chorus of crickets and the kiss of night breeze on the cheek is magical.
Travel: Road trips – whether day trips or far away – are the great American adventure. Load up the car, pack lots of food, and squeeze the family into vehicles large and small. Lighthouses and other things can be seen – and stopped at – along the way. Whether your final destination is the mountains or shore, whether an escape to the country or an adventure in the city,
Outdoor fun: Some activities can be done year-round, but there are certain ones that are just better during the Summer: horseback riding, tennis, hiking, fishing, rafting, canoeing are among those.
