Happy Birthday Pablo Picasso!

Picasso - Les Demoiselles D'Avignon

On October 25th, we celebrate the birthday of Pablo Ruiz Picasso, a Spanish artist who was a great influence with 20th century art.

Although he was born in Spain, he spent most of his career in France. He demonstrated natural talent early on and even without formal education, he studied many different art movements. During his career he made friends with a variety of other innovative artists and their influence can be seen in his changing technique.

Picasso was an artist who was able to enjoy critical acclaim and success during his career, but his style has influenced arts for a century after.

He was a painter, sculptor, and more. His contributions to modern art include the collage and modern cubism. His work is often separated into various periods such as: Blue period, Rose period, African Influenced Period, and more. His later works showed details of a Neoclassical style as well as Surrealism.

Picasso continued to paint all the way up until his death at the age of 91 in 1973, making him both prolific in the sheer number of his works as well as the enormous size of his vast estate.
