Shun Todoroki Named ArtistBe.com’s October Artist of the Month
If finger painting makes you think of preschool play dates you aren’t alone. That said, in this case a finger, or hand, painting is far from little kid artwork. Artist Shun Todoroki’s unique style sets him apart from other contemporary artists, and shows off his true artistic individuality. Nixing the brush, in favor of his own hands, this artist brings an abstract flare of a new sorts to his paintings.
Without any formal training, Todoroki started painting three years ago – teaching himself. He started painting after finding inspiration in the words of Taro Okamoto. Self-described as an abstract painter, the artist uses mostly acrylics and oils. He sometimes draws onto the canvas and has experimented with using artificial flowers as part of the work.
While he hasn’t exhibited in a formal gallery this far, Todoroki has plans for his first exhibition in Kyoto in December.
Todoroki’s work features a swirling sense of color, highlighted in pieces such as Spectacle of Abstract Painting Night and the Sun. This acrylic piece is a whirlwind of finger painted hues, in bold reds, vibrant yellow and sea blues. The artist’s other works hold an equally as impressive abstract feel. With an almost-Impressionist technique, Todoroki masterfully melds color on top of color. The textures created by his brushless method blend, mix and create eye-catching patterns.
We are excited to have Shun Todoroki’s abstract artwork as part of the ArtistBe.com community. To see all of Todoroki’s finger painted pieces, check out the collection on the ArtistBe.com gallery.
