Jerry Sauls named August Artist of the Month
Florida native Jerry Sauls has been named Artist Become’s August Artist of the Month. An established artist, Sauls began painting more than 25 years ago. What started out as a hobby turned in to a full-time profession in July of 1999 when his successes as an artist enabled him to leave his job as a computer applications manager and systems analyst and devote himself to his artistic career.
Sauls, who has resided in northern Florida his entire life, specializes in nature landscapes and still lifes. “As I see it, the challenge to me as an artist, is not only to paint nature in all her glory and diversity, but also to capture the emotion a scene evokes and incorporate that emotion into the mixing of paint on my palette and into my brushstrokes as the paint is applied to the canvas. Detail, color and texture are as important to my work, as light and the elements are to nature,” Sauls explains.
An avid traveler, Sauls seeks inspiration from the many places he has traversed including the Hawaiian Islands, Canada, the Caribbean, Mexico, Europe, Alaska and the continental United States. “When planning a new work of art, I like to think about something I have experienced, and how the image can be influenced by natural elements like light and weather. Often, I will begin working with a particular image in my mind, and as I progress, wonderful things seem to happen, transforming my visual image as it is passed onto the canvas. As a result, the completed work is sometimes very different from my original vision.”
Sauls exhibits nearly 50 works of art in his personal gallery on Artist Become. Those works of art include:
- Bears of Denali – “Bears of Denali” tells a familiar story of the wildlife and the incredible wilderness that is Alaska’s Denali National Park. This painting depicts the familiar trek of a mother grizzly and her three cubs through one of America’s most beautiful and brutal landscapes.
- Gateway to the Alps – This landscape captures the magnificence of the Swiss Alps and the quaint village of Bern Interlaken, Switzerland. This painting features a view from the entrance to the town, which provided the very best of everything that Interlaken had to offer with spectacular colors of the spring garden the bright green field the rays of the morning sun strong on the face of the buildings and of course the snow covered peaks of the mountain range.
- Villa at Lake Como – Of all the many breathtaking sites along Lake Como in Northern Italy from Villa Carlotta to Bellagio to a multitude of spectacular private properties, Villa Balbianello was Sauls’ personal favorite. This landscape painting depicts was this lovely villa sitting on the water with the angle of the sunshine impacting the structure and property as well as the imposing facade of the architecture of the villa itself.
Sauls joined Artist Become after receiving a personal invitation from the online community. “I was attracted to the presentation, professionalism and family of participating artists that I experienced when I visited Artist Become,” Sauls explains. “I had ventured into canvas reproductions in the past but found it too expensive for an individual artist to undertake. I like the fact that with Artist Become I can sell original works of my art through Creative Works of Jerry Sauls and can also offer my fans the opportunity to purchase affordable, high-quality reproductions as well.”
Since its official launch in March 2011, Artist Become has been opening doors for emerging and established artists around the world. There is no cost to join and members can sell their art without commission fees. Artists receive royalties for every canvas reproduction sold. The online community focuses solely on original art and its growing amount of artist members. Artist Become is the latest venture by the popular online art gallery overstockArt.com, the go-to source on the web for purchasing art reproduction oil paintings.
